Top seeds Robert Paxton and Jonathan Ross were eliminated from the World Indoor Bowls Championships in England today as Jamie Chestney and Mark Dawes got the better of them in the quarter-finals of the pairs competition.

English duo Chestney and Dawes emerged 5-4, 8-6 victors at the Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton-on-Sea, Norfolk, earning them a place in the penultimate round at the expense of compatriot Paxton and Scotland's Ross.

Next up for them are Welsh qualifiers Damian Doubler and Daniel Salmon, who upset the odds to beat England’s Nick Brett and Greg Harlow 5-3, 8-2 in the last of the quarter-final ties.

The other semi-final was decided yesterday and pits the pairing of Scotland’s David Gourlay and England’s Mervin King against England’s Les Gillett and Wales’ Jason Greenslade.

Both clashes are scheduled to take place tomorrow, when the men’s singles action is also due to commence with a meeting between England’s Andy Thomson and Ireland’s Graham McKee.

The pairs final is set to take place on January 23.
