The local Organising Committee of the World Curling Federation (WCF) 2017 World Women’s Curling Championship has unveiled the event logo and title sponsor at a press conference today.

The tournament is due to be held between March 18 and 26 at the Capital Gymnasium in Beijing and it was announced at the venue that Beijing Competitor Sports Science and Technology has won the naming rights and sponsorship for the championship.

The same company also sponsored the 2014 Men’s World Championships, which were also held in Beijing.

“With the CPT World Women’s Curling Championship 2017 just around the corner I’m pleased to hear about the progress being made and the hard work to ensure a first-class event in March," said WCF President, Kate Caithness.

“I am also delighted to welcome CPT, on board, as title sponsor once again.

“The development of our sport in China continues to grow rapidly and we very much look forward to working together with our friends in China over the coming years.”

The Organising Committee explained during the press conference that hosting the event is an integral part of their preparations for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

“It is estimated that at that time more than 150 people including athletes, coaches, officers of the World Curling Federation and judges will gather in Beijing to jointly witness the magnificent meeting on the ice," said Chen Jie, the executive deputy director of the Organising Committee and deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports.

“In recent years, especially since our city succeeded in bidding for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games jointly with Zhangjiakou and Hebei, Beijing has held international high-level ice events including the men’s curling championship and the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Cup of China and has accumulated rich experience in event organisation.”

The WCF and the Chinese Curling Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in December 2016 which sees the two organisations work together to develop the sport of curling, both in China and across the world.

Finance company LGT signed a sponsorship deal with the WCF to become the main sponsor of the Women's World Championship back in November.

As part of LGT's package of rights, they will be given key exposure at the events, including under-ice advertising and advertising boards.

The logo of the banking group will feature on players' kit, the scoreboards and interview backdrops.

LGT will also be featured on all communications material while the company will receive a hospitality package that offers a behind-the-scenes tour and invitations to official events such as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Switzerland have dominated the tournament in recent years, winning all of the previous three editions.

Their most recent victory came in Saskatchewan last year where they defeated Japan 9-6 in the final.
