Special stamps have been launched in Malaysia to celebrate the country's performance at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The nation's postal service Pos Malaysia is behind the initiative, with the stamps depicting the images of three national athletes who won gold medals in the Brazilian city.

They are Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi, the men's 100 metres T36 champion, F20 shot put winner Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli and T20 long jump victor Abdul Latif Romly.

The theme of the stamps is "Golden Moments in Paralympics Rio 2016".

Malaysia had never won a Paralympic gold medal before Rio 2016, so the track and field trio have etched their names into the history books.

A cover and folder have also been released to go alongside the stamps, with the aim of attracting philately enthusiasts.

The complete set can be bought for MYR23 (£4.10/$5.10/€4.90).

Pos Malaysia chief executive Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh told The Malay Mail: "They sacrificed their time with their families and faced many challenges to be the best among the best.

"We, in Pos Malaysia, will always support them and the Malaysian team."

The launch of the stamp collection was attended by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Malaysia also won one bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, courtesy of T20 women's long jumper Siti Noor Radiah Ismail.

Their first Paralympic gold medals were particularly celebrated as the country has never topped the podium at the Olympic Games.
