Organisers of the event are expecting around 50,000 people to attend during the week-long competition, while they are hoping for a worldwide television audience of 660 million people.

Action is set to be held at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, a venue used when the Canadian city played host to the 1976 Games.

During the 1976 Olympics, Romania’s Nadia Comăneci shot to fame when she famously become the first-ever gymnast to be awarded a perfect 10 score at the Games.

The 55-year-old was announced as the official spokesperson for the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships last month.

Comăneci left the Montreal 1976 Olympics will three gold medals at the age of 14, having triumphed in the all-round, uneven bars and beam events.

She also secured team silver and floor bronze at the Games, before going on to win a further two Olympic titles and silver medals in Moscow four years later.

Gymnastics was hosted at the Montreal Forum during the Olympics.
