Chinese swimmers brushed aside the rest of the field today as they secured five of the nine gold medals on offer on the final day of the Asian Swimming Championships at the Tatsumi International Swimming Centre in Tokyo.

Wang Shun was the first Chinese winner today as the Rio 2016 bronze medallist won the 200 metres individual medley final.

In the same event in the Brazilian city, Wang finished three seconds behind American Michael Phelps, but none of his continental rivals could prevent him from sealing victory as he touched the wall in a time of 1min 56.66sec.

Japan's Daiya Seto claimed silver in 1:57.80 while his compatriot Keita Sunama finished in third in 1:28.803.

Claiming a second Chinese gold medal was Xu Jiayu after he won the men's 100m backstroke final.

Xu, who narrowly missed out on a gold medal in this event at Rio 2016, finished in a time of 53.02sec.

Li Guangyuan secured a Chinese one-two in 54.30sec while Takeshi Kawamoto completed the podium after he finished third in 54.39sec.
