Organisers of the opening International Ski Federation (FIS) Cross-Country World Cup leg in Ruka in Finland have said conditions are good in preparation for the season's curtain-raiser on November 26.

Both male and female skiers will begin in Ruka, which has been the venue for the campaign opener for the past two years.

Men's and women's sprint races will be held on November 26, with the men then tackling a 15 kilometre classic race a day later.

The women will race over 10km on November 27.

"The snow situation is good and the competition course is covered with man-made snow," said Jyri Pelkonen, the director of the Olympic Training Center at the Vuokatti Sports Institute.

"It is the same situation with the ski test area.

"So all the competition venues are prepared for the Nordic opening 2016-17.

"The weather prognosis is also promising, winter-like weather will continue for at least the next ten days."

Norwegians won all of the races in Ruka last season.

After this year's action, the FIS Cross-Country World Cup will move to Lillehammer, Norway's 1994 Winter Olympic and 2016 Winter Youth Olympic host, for the second leg of the season from December 2.
