The Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) are organising the event, with the Training Centre venue one of the key legacies of the Rio 2016 Paralympics which were held in the country in September.

The building offers facilities for 15 different sports under the same roof, with space for up to 300 people.

The aim is for it to become a focal point for Para-sport across the whole of the Americas and not just Brazil.

CPB vice president Ivaldo Brandao predicted a successful event.

"The Paralympic University Games will be an important step towards athletes' and adapted sports' development," he said.

"This event links school with high-performance training.

"We will start with five sports in this inaugural edition and we plan to add team sports in future editions."

Brazil enjoyed a successful home Paralympic Games, finishing eighth on the medal table and bagging 14 gold medals in a total haul of 72.

The CPB will be hoping to use the University Games to fellow build on their Rio 2016 achievements.
