Lisa Wainwright has been appointed as British Basketball Federation's interim chief executive

Lisa Wainwright has been appointed as the interim chief executive of the British Basketball Federation (BBF) following the departure of chairman Nick Humby.

Wainwright comes the post with significant experience, having held senior positions at Sport England and England Netball, as well as having held a non-executive position as the Amateur Swimming Association’s deputy chair.

Her most recent role was as the chief executive of Volleyball England, a position she held for eight years.

The BBF claim that Wainwright’s appointment comes at a key time, with the interim chief executive set to lead their new strategy entitled "Transforming Basketball in Britain Together 2016-2028".

"I am delighted to take on this new challenge with the BBF, particularly considering the men's recent qualification for Eurobasket 2017 and the women's campaign for qualification in November," said Wainwright.

She previously worked alongside others, including Betty Codona, to secure Basketball England's largest ever award from Sport England.

Securing support and funding for basketball are expected to be key objectives for Wainwright in both the short and long-term following her appointment.

The BBF currently receive £10 million ($12 million/€11 million) in funding from Sport England over a four year period but still remain some way down on other Federations in Britain.

They receive no funding from UK Sport.

The departure of Humby was also announced by the BBF, with the former English Football Association and Lawn Tennis Association official leaving after just over a year in the post.

He was praised for his work in developing the BBF’s strategic plan prior to his departure, with Bill McInnes set to return as the interim chairman until a permanent replacement is confirmed.
