The 2016 European Korfball Championships reached its penultimate day of competition today with a host of classification matches at Sportboulevard in Dordrecht to determine the tournament's final standings.

Tomorrow The Netherlands are due to have the chance to defend their title after they advanced to the final, where they will face Belgium.

Portugal and Catalonia, meanwhile, will compete for the bronze medal.

Today, however, the rest of tournament's 10 teams competed in two separate group stages to determine the competition's overall results.

In Pool E, Turkey suffered two consecutive defeats on what proved to be a miserable day.

Firstly, they were beaten 15-10 by Poland before going on to narrowly lose to Russia 16-15.

In this evening's penultimate match Russia claimed a second victory of the day as they overcame Poland 15-13.

Elsewhere, in Pool F, there was a mixed day for England as they enjoyed one win but also suffered a single defeat.

They narrowly lost their first match of the day to Germany 8-9 before going on to beat the Czech Republic 14-8.

Germany then inflicted another defeat on the Czechs as they won the final match of today 19-7.

Following today's results, Turkey have finished in tenth place with Poland in ninth and Russia in eighth rounding off the bottom three.

Czech Republic secured seventh place overall finishing just behind Germany who claimed sixth.

England took fifth place with the top four positions set to be completed tomorrow.

Action on the final day of the Championships is due to begain at 11.30am local time with the bronze medal match.

The gold medal match will then bring the tournament to its close at 1.30pm local time.
