Australia will be aiming to add a Fast5 Netball World Series title to their illustrious list of honours when the competition begins in Melbourne tomorrow.

The Fast5 Netball tournament, due to held at the Hisense Arena, is the only international trophy to elude the hosts.

Last year saw the tournament put on hiatus due to the Netball World Cup taking place in Sydney.

Netball Australia won the rights to host the series for the next three years in January.

The annual two-day event, established in 2012, sees the top six international netball teams in the world compete in the modified version of the game, featuring five players-a-side, shortened quarters, multiple point shots and double point power plays.

The Australians are scheduled to begin their campaign in the opening match of the tournament where they face Malawi.

After finishing sixth in 2012, the Australian Fast5 Flyers won the silver medal in both 2013 and 2014, losing on each occasion to New Zealand.

"The selection of our team was based on who can play Fast5 netball," said Australian captain Susan Pettitt.

"All of the girls are shooting really well at the moment.

"Caitlin Thwaites and Gretel Tippett can also shoot those twos and threes so we’ve got some really strong players out there."

Undoubtedly the favourites in the competition will New Zealand, winners of the tournament on five of the past six occasions.

New Zealand’s Fast5 Ferns have dominated since its inception, winning the gold medal on home soil in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

They are due to begin their campaign with a match against England before taking on Australia in a potentially thrilling match tomorrow evening.

Australia’s Nine Network have announced that they will be broadcasting the entire two-day tournament.

The competition is the first event under Netball Australia’s new broadcast deal with the Nine Network.

Their coverage will feature an experienced panel of netball commentators including former national captain’s Liz Ellis and Sharelle McMahon.

The competition is scheduled to conclude with the finals day on Sunday (October 30).
