The temporary facility would be built in Kossuth Square, outside of the Hungarian capital's famous Parliament building, and would include space for 4,000 fans.

They would be treated to "stunning views of Hungary’s symbolic centre on the banks of the Danube" if Budapest is successful with its bid, organisers have claimed.

The banks of the river are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, something planners are keen to work into Budapest's "master plan" for the Games.

"The Parliament Square Archery Centre is an example of how planners are creating temporary and sustainable venues at landmark locations in order to maximise the spectator experience whilst meeting strict protection requirements for UNESCO sites," said Pál Baross, chairman of the Budapest 2024 Sustainability Advisory Board.

Organisers coincided the release of the images on Monday (October 23) with the national holiday which is held to mark the Hungarian Revolution in 1956.

A monument stands in the Square which honours those who lost their lives in the uprising, which saw Soviet rulers put down the revolt just prior to the Melbourne 1956 Olympics.

"Sport transcends borders and differences," said Balázs Fürjes, chairman of Budapest 2024. 

“Sport has been a beacon that has lit Hungary’s way throughout its modern history, a source of dignity, identity and encouragement for generation after generation. 

"The Olympic Games have a special significance for Hungary in this context and have served as an exemplar of the power of sport to heal wounds and unite humanity. 

"We are deeply proud that one of the finest examples of this is the brokering of the first modern Olympic truce by IOC Chancellor Otto Mayer to allow the Hungarian Olympic team to compete in Melbourne in 1956."

Budapest is competing against Paris and Los Angeles for the rights to host in 2024.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will elect a host at its Session in Lima on September 13, 2017.
