Canadian city Calgary looks set to host the International Skating Union (ISU) World Allround Speed Skating Championships in 2019.

The governing body has provisionally allocated a number of its major events for three years time, with Calgary poised to host the premier competition between March 2 and 3.

The city hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 1988 and is currently mulling over whether to bid for the 2026 edition.

Another Canadian city, Vancouver, has been named as the provisional host of the 2019 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final.

The 2010 Winter Olympic host has been touted to stage the climax of the Grand Prix season between December 5 and 9 in 2018.

Other events provisionally awarded by the ISU Council include the World Sprint Speed Skating Championships, which look set to be staged between February 23 and 24 in Heerenveen in The Netherlands. 

The European Speed Skating Championships have been provisionally handed to Collalbo in Italy, with action set for between January 11 and 13, while the 2019 World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships have been pencilled in for between February 7 and 10 in Inzell, Germany.

Baselga di Piné in Italy is the provisional host for the World Junior Speed Skating Championships, with competition earmarked for between February 15 and 17.

The ISU this week moved the 2017 European Speed Skating Championships from Warsaw to Heerenveen.

The event was due to be held in the Polish capital between January 6 and 8, but the Polish Speed Skating Association have informed the ISU Council that there are "major issues" with the Stegny Oval venue. 

The competition dates will remain the same.
