Zlatko Matesa has been re-elected President of the Croatian Olympic Committee (COO) until 2020.

As the sole candidate, Matesa received 121 votes out of 123 available and will now serve a fifth term.

His candidacy was supported by 33 national sports federations.

Matesa presented to members of the Elective Assembly his proposed measures for improving the status of sport in Croatia, including the adoption of a national sport programme.

Former Alpine skier and four-time Olympic gold medallist Janica Kostelić, now assistant to Croatia's Science, Education and Sports Minister Predrag Sustar, was among those in attendance.

Matesa, who is also a member of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Executive Committee, is the third President of the COO since it was formed.

He has followed in the footsteps of Antun Vrdoljak, who served from 1991 to 2000, and Zdravko Hebel, who held the role from 2000 to 2002.

In November of last year, Matesa proposed a resolution to get behind Budapest's bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games ahead of the EOC General Assembly in Prague.

Croatia won ten medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics in August, including five golds.
