Olympic silver medallist Zhang Binbin turned the tables on Rio 2016 winner Barbara Engleder by claiming gold in the women's rifle three positions event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final in Bologna today.

The Chinese shooter and Germany's Engleder continued their rivalry at the season-ending event and were divided by just a few tenths of a point throughout the contest, which featured kneeling, prone and standing stages.

Zhang came to the fore with a perfect 10.9 score on her penultimate shot, which moved her into the lead and eventually was enough for gold.

She scored 460.2 points to claim the World Cup title at the Italian venue, edging out Engleder who was only narrowly behind on 460.0.

The German has now confirmed her retirement from the sport - a decision she announced in Rio.

Du Li claimed bronze with 448.9 points after also finishing third at Rio 2016.

It meant that all three shooters who earned a spot on the Olympic podium did so again at the Bologna Shooting Range, only in a slightly different order.

In the men's three positions competition, the last to be held at the World Cup Final, Russia's Sergey Kamenskiy triumphed with a score of 461.4 for gold.

Kamenskiy, the silver medallist in Rio, got the better of China's Zicheng Hui who finished with 460.5.

Bronze went to American Matthew Emmons, a triple Olympic medallist who won gold in the men's 50m rifle prone at Athens 2004.

He finished with 447.9 points.

The second ISSF World Cup Final, for shotgun events, will now also be held in Italy, with action beginning in Rome from October 11.
