World Sailing has unveiled a fresh emblem for the governing body, alongside a new "vision" and "mission" for the sport.

Released today, the organisation say they have created a "new strategic positioning" for sailing with a "new, fresh and modern brand identity".

It follows World Sailing rebranding itself from its previous guise - the International Sailing Federation - in December last year.

The new logo and brand identity has today been rolled out across the governing body's digital presence, including its website.

The emblem features two sails - one turquoise and one pink.

The new vision for sailing, meanwhuile, calls for "a world in which millions more people fall in love with sailing; inspired by the unique relationship between sport, technology and the forces of nature; we all work to protect the waters of the world".

The World Sailing mission is to "make sailing more exciting and accessible for everyone to participate or watch; and use our reach and influence to create a sustainable future for our sport and the waters of the world".

This will involve creating and regulating "exciting competition events" to "showcase the natural power of wind driven water sport" and building a "strong profile and image" for sailing.

The creation of a "tangible sustainability programme that maximises the positive effect that the sailing community can have on our environment" will also be created.

World Sailing claim that the mission can be encapsulated in a simple message: "sport, technology and nature in perfect harmony".

Andy Hunt, chief executive of World Sailing, said: "World Sailing has to adapt and seize opportunities and our new positioning captures both the substance and emotion of why we all have a passion for sailing.

"A more contemporary brand identity for World Sailing represents our new proposition to ensure we stand out in what is a very crowded marketplace and provide us with the flexibility to meet the communication needs of a modern, complex, multi-channel organisation.

"We hope that new brand identity will resonate well with fans, sponsors and the sailing community and captures the collective desire of sailors to be the guardians of the ocean."

A short film featuring sailors, coaches and fans has been released alongside today's announcement.

The new identity will now "come to life", World Sailing say, at the governing body's Annual Conference in Barcelona, due to take place between November 5 and 13.

Sustainability has been chosen as the main theme of the event in the Spanish city, which will also feature Presidential elections.

Italian incumbent Carlo Croce faces the challenge of Denmark's Kim Andersen and Canada's Paul Henderson, a former President of the governing body.

The winner is scheduled to be elected on November 13 and will serve a four-year term.
