A new Development Commission has been introduced by the International Skating Union (ISU) in order to improve the running of the sport following the election of Jan Dijkema as President in June.

The three-person Commission will consist of Dijkema's Dutch compatriot Jildou Gemser, along with Finland's Susanna Rahkamo and Japan's Tatsuro Matsumura.

They are now expected to decide on a coordinator among themselves.

A decision was made during the ISU Congress in Dubrovnik in June to overhaul the previous system of a single development coordinator.

Hungary's György Sallak, secondbehind Dijkema in the ISU Presidential Election held in the Croatian city, had previously held this position.

Sallak had faced criticism during his campaign for supposedly using his development coordinator position to travel among Federations and try to gain support.

An anonymous email addressed to the "World Skating Family" was circulated in March, seeking to raise questions over "whether a person who spends ISU money in such a manner can be suitable to take control over and to manage the total ISU budget".

It claims that he managed a budget of almost $6 million (£4 million/€5.5 million) per year with almost no control, adding that only 15 of the 72 ISU members had been supported and that Hungary had received 20 per cent of funding.

The ISU voted to set-up a new and more egalitarian Development Commission.

Later in June, they then announced they had "terminated with immediate effect their cooperation" with Sallak.

"Based on the 2016 Congress decision to create a Development Commission and to discontinue the present function of the Development Coordinator, the Council decided to terminate with immediate effect the cooperation with Mr. György Sallak," confirmed a message posted on the ISU website.

A new document outlining the ISU Development Programme objectives, operating structure and procedures is currently being drawn-up, the world governing body have also announced.

It is expected to be published after the Council meeting scheduled for October 14 to 16 in Geneva.
