The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (NOCU) has staged its annual "Olympic Lesson" in capital city Kyiv.

The event, held at the Olympic Stadium, aimed to promote Olympic values as well as the history and achievements of the Olympic Movement in Ukraine.

Also backed by the country's Ministry of Youth and Sport and the Ministry of Education and Science, the initiative has now been run for 12 consecutive years.

The "sport celebration" also intended to encourage an active lifestyle and "harmonious" development.

NOCU President Sergey Bubka took part in a ceremony accompanied by representatives from Government and sporting bodies, with Ukrainian medallists from the Rio 2016 Olympics also joining in the celebration.

The event continued with sporting masterclasses, contests, relays and quizzes.

There was also an Olympic Fair where various sports could be tried, with those taking part able to exchange their scores for souvenirs at an Olympic Market.

The Olympic Lesson will now be spread to other regions of Ukraine.

It is hoped that thousands of youngsters will get the opportunity to meet with Olympic champions and medallists, as well as other athletes and coaches.

This, the NOCU say, will help to aid them not only physically but intellectually.

Ukraine won two gold medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics, with gymnast Oleh Vernyayev claiming the men's parallel bars title.

Canoe sprinter Yuriy Cheban then won the men's C1 200 metres title, with the country also winning five silvers and four bronzes.

The country enjoyed an outstanding Paralympics, winning 41 golds in a total haul of 117 to finish third on the medal table.
