Huang Yuxiang of China shocked Hong Kong's number one seed Nan Wei in the semi-finals of the men's singles competition at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) 2016 Indonesian Masters.

Yuxiang, who is seeded number 12 in the competition, beat the 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist 21-11, 18-21, 22-20 to book his place in tomorrow's final at the Gedung Dome in Balikpapan.

Huang will now face his compatriot Yuqi Shi, the number 11 seed.

Shi was made to work for his final place against an unseeded opponent in fellow Chinese player Jun Peng Zhao, but he eventually came through 21-11, 15-21, 21-12.

In the women's singles competition, number one seed Busanan Ongbumrungpan of Thailand continued her impressive form to narrowly avoid a potentially embarrassing upset.

The 20-year-old, a double Southeast Asian Games gold medallist and Summer Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist at Nanjing 2014, was forced to come from a set down as she fell behind to her compatriot Pornpawee Chochuwong.

Ongbumrungpan, however, responded well and was able to take the decisive second and third sets to win 16-21, 21-15, 21-15.
