The event offers competing countries the chance to earn a spot at the World Women’s and Men’s Curling Championships in 2017, due to be staged in Beijing and Edmonton respectively.

The World Championships for both men and women form a key part of the qualification process for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

A total of seven countries will book their Olympic berth for the Games in the South Korean resort by earning points at the World Championships, added to the total they claimed earlier this year.

Two teams in the men’s and women’s competitions will secure their spot at Pyeongchang 2018 through Olympic qualification events, with South Korea guaranteed a place by virtue of being the host nation.

Defending men’s champions Sweden get the European Curling Championships underway on November 19 when they clash with Germany.

Switzerland, the reigning world women’s champions, begin their campaign against 2015 European Championships gold medallists Russia on the same day.
