Hosts South Korea suffered a humiliating 11-1 defeat to Chinese Taipei as the Super Round matches at the Women's Baseball World Cup in Gijang got underway.

Chinese Taipei started the match extremely well, scoring seven runs in their opening innings whilst South Korea drew a blank.

A stalemate in the second innings and a deficit cutting one run in the third gave Korea a brief period of recovery, before their opponents managed to add another four runs in the fourth to inflict further misery.

Elsewhere, Japan easily overcame Venezuela 7-2.

The South Americans were unable to score until the fifth innings but by then it was too late as the Japanese team had consistently scored in innings two, three and four before sealing the victory with four runs in the fifth.

Canada narrowly edged Australia 5-3 in the third and final Super Round match.

A nervy start brought only two runs from both sides in the first five innings, both of which went to Canada.

A tied 3-3 score in the sixth did nothing to change the scoreboard before a stalemate in the last secured victory for the Canadians.
