Ondrej Polivka and Barbora Kodekova each claimed double gold on a weekend of Czech Republic domination at the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) Laser Run World Championships in Lisbon.

London 2012 Olympian Polívka crossed the line first in 11min 43.15 to win comfortably over South Africa's Pieter Oosthuizen, in 11:56.32.

Czech Republic also secured bronze courtesy of Ondrej Svechota in 12:23.07.

Portugal's Amaro Teixeira was the leading home hope in fifth place in 12:55.13.

Fellow Czech Barbora Kodekova then took the corresponding women's title in 14:02.61.

She beat Nina Waldner of Austria, who managed 14.33.60, and Cogan Juliette of France, in 14:56.94.

Polívka, also the 2009 individual European champion, then teamed up with Kodekova to win the mixed relay title ahead of teams from Spain and Austria.

Laser run was introduced by the UIPM during 2014 in an effort to increase international interest in the sport by enabling athletes to overcome difficulties regarding technologies and equipment to compete.

The format sees athletes take part in a running and shooting event, which the UIPM claim provides dynamic racing.

Athletes faced four rounds of laser pistol shooting from 10 metres in the Portuguese capital city, as well as running a distance of 800 metres after each shooting section.
