Eain Yow Ng became the first Malaysian for seven years to secure the World Squash Federation (WSF) World Junior Squash Championships title while Nouran Gohar of Egypt successfully defended her women’s crown on the final day of the event in Bielsko-Biała in Poland.

Ng followed in the footsteps of compatriot Ong Beng Hee, who won the men’s event in 1998, by overcoming top seeded player Saadeldin Abouaish of Egypt 11-3, 9-11, 11-7, 11-5 in 54 minutes.

The result handed the Malaysian his fourth win out of the past five clashes with the Egyptian and ensured he entered his name into the record books.

His success never looked in doubt as he raced to the opening game before Abouiash, who saw off US Junior Open champion Israr Ahmed to reach the final, hit back to level proceedings.

Ng regained his composure, however, reeling off consecutive games to get his hands on the World Junior Squash Championships trophy for the first time.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Ng.

“Becoming World Junior Champion is something I’ve dreamed about since I started playing squash, but to actually do it, it’s like a dream.

“I went into the match not thinking about winning or losing, just about playing my game and seeing what happened.

“I couldn’t have done it without the help of my friends, family and coaches, so thanks to all of those!”

In the women’s final, Gohar breezed to a straight games triumph over team-mate Rowan Reda Araby to complete the tournament with a flawless record.

The 18-year-old, competing in her third consecutive final after she was a runner-up two years ago, retained her title thanks to a superb 11-5, 11-6, 11-7 win.

“I can’t believe it,” Gohar said.

“To win it more than once and join the legends who have done this before, it’s a dream come true.

“It was a tough match, Rowan played well, but I’m just so happy to finish my junior career with this win.”
