Tan Chaun-Jin, the country's Minister for Social and Family Development and President of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), was on hand for the ceremony alongide Grace Fu, the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth.

The two flags were presented to the two flagbearers for the Olympics and Paralympics respectively.

Derek Wong Zi Liang, a badminton player, will carry the Singapore flag at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics on Friday (August 5).

The 27-year-old won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014, losing to Kashyap Parupalli of India in the final.

He also won bronze with his compatriots in the mixed team competition.

Swimmer Pin Xiu Yip, meanwhile, has been selected as the Paralympic flagbearer.

Singapore will be represented in the Olympic Games by 25 athletes, with the country backed by the "One Team Singapore" campaign.

In the run-up to Rio, more than 2000 people celebrated Olympic Day alongside athletes and officials.

A 3.6 kilometre Olympic walk was held, next to Olympic-themed artwork and sculptures.

These were installed at the Youth Olympic Park, as part of the legacy of the Singapore 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games.

The country won two bronze medals at London 2012, both in table tennis.
