The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) has issued a public call to 600 former athletes who are at the end of their sports career, urging them to sign up for its "La Nuova Stagione" project.

The project, launched within the scope of the national programme “Active Policy Systems for Employment for 2016 and 2017", strives to guide and support athletes in their career choice at the end of their sports careers.

It is jointly promoted by CONI, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies and the European Union (EU).

Some 2,000 ex-athletes are due to be involved in the project, which is due to last three years.

The aim is to enhance the skills they have acquired during their time in sport, so as to combine them with the demands and opportunities of today’s world of work, and then assist them in finding jobs.

Citizens of all EU countries are able to take part in the project as well as non-EU citizens with a valid residence permit in one of four categories.

Categories include NEETs [Not in Education Employment or Training] between the ages of 18 and 29, and unemployed youth not enrolled in the lists of public employment services, or people aged between 29 and 35 years.

Unemployed women and the long-term unemployed - people looking for employment for 12 months - complete the list.

Applications can be made until September 30 and must be submitted to CONI at [email protected].
