The Colombian Olympic Committee (COC) has held a sports journalism conference ahead of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Held in capital Bogota, the event was arranged in collaboration with the Sergio Arboleda University and Olympic Solidarity.

The aim of the conference was to provide basic information about covering an Olympic Games, with journalists and other accredited personnel among those in attendance.

Included in the number were Argentinian journalist Alejandro Lifschitz, who is a member of the Rio 2016 Olympic communications team.

Baltazar Medina, the President of the COC, was also present alongside Ciro Solano, who will serve as Chef de Mission for the Colombian Olympic team in Rio.

Solano is also the first vice president of the COC.

Topics on the agenda included Colombia's communication strategy when their team is competing in Brazil.

Sports, competition systems and the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms were also covered.

Many countries boast Sports Journalists' Associations to serve as a link between governing bodies and the media.

Colombia will head into the Rio Olympics, the first to be held in South America, after their best ever Games performance at London 2012.

Going into the event in the British capital, the country had only won 11 medals in their history, but they were able to add a further eight to the tally four years ago.

This included only their second-ever gold for Mariana Pajón in the women's BMX as well as three silver medals and four bronze.

Their other gold medal came at Sydney 2000 when weightlifter María Isabel Urrutia triumphed in the women's 75kg class.
