Jordan will be represented by 10 athletes at the Paralympic Games here in September, it has been announced.

They will send competitors in athletics, powerlifting and table tennis.

Jordan made its Paralympic debut in 1984 when the Games were held jointly in Stoke Mandeville and New York.

They have competed in every Games since with the exception of Barcelona 1992.

The country claimed its first and so far only gold Olympic or Paralympic medal at Sydney 2000.

Maha Al Barghouthi won the singles 1-2 table tennis tournament.

Al Barghouthi, now 52, is included in Jordan's team for Rio 2016.

"Sydney was something else," she said.

"To win gold and watch as Jordan’s flag was raised because of me was the highlight of my life.

"I still dream of that moment."

Bargouth is joined in the table tennis squad by Khetam Abuawad, a bronze medallist at Beijing 2008 in the team class 4-5, and Osama Abu Jame.

Jordan's biggest hope for a gold medal at Rio 2016 is powerlifter Mutaz Al Juneidi.

Juneidi broke the world record in the men’s up to 88 kilograms when he won a gold medal at the 2014 World Championships in Dubai.

He will be joined by fellow powerlifters Omar Sami Hamadeh Qarada, Abdelkareem Mohammad Ahmad Khattab, Haidarah Alkawamleh, Jamil Elshebli and Tharwh Tayseer Hamdan Alhajaj.

Bilal Sa'ada will compete in athletics.

The Paralympic Games are due to open on September 7 and conclude on September 17.
