The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) has agreed an insurance deal for its team ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The country will be backed again by Pacific MMI who will provide full cover for the nation's delegation in Brazil.

A presentation to mark the agreement was made by Pacific MMI managing director Wayne Dorgan, who met with Papua New Guinea's Chef de Mission for Rio Emma Waiwai.

Syd Yates, the chairman of fundraising for PNGOC, was also in attendance at the Pacifci MMI offices in capital Port Moresby, the host of last year's Pacific Games.

“Pacific MMI has shown that being in business is more than just about delivering high quality and competitive products and services; it’s also about being a responsible corporate citizen within the communities and society in which we operate,” Dorgan said.

“This is just another example of how Pacific MMI operates in our business relationships, community partnerships and our social engagements.

"It is the continuation of our commitment to PNG sport through corporate support."

Swimmer Ryan Pini, boxer Thadius Katua, judoka Raymond Ovinou, taekwondo players Maxemillion Kassman and Samantha Kassman, weightlifter Morea Baru and track and field stars Toea Wisil and Theo Piniau will be among the Papua New Guinea team in Rio.

“We encourage our athletes to stay focused on their Games and it is comforting to know that Pacific MMI has Team PNG covered,” said Waiwai.

Yates added: "We value Pacific MMI's continued partnership through sports in Papua New Guinea.

"The support has catered for much needed insurance cover for Team PNG to our four year cycle of events which includes the Pacific Games, Pacific Mini Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympics."
