The University of Zagreb triumphed in the men’s futsal final on the penultimate day of competition at the European Universities Games in Croatia.

A strong performance from the home team saw them delight the crowd, as they stormed to a 7-3 victory over Russia’s Siberian Federal University, while the University of Minho won bronze.

Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering were crowned as the winners of the women’s event after they overcame the University of Munster, with the Russians sealing a 3-1 victory in the final.

The Jagiellonian University in Krakow defeated the University of Zagreb in the bronze medal contest.

The finals of the beach volleyball competitions also took place, with 20 team men’s and women’s events having taken place throughout much of the Games.

Norway were assured of success in the women’s final after the University of Bergen and the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences both reached the last stage of the event.

Gold was eventually won by the University of Bergen, while the University of Warsaw defeated the University of Linz for bronze.

Despite missing out on the podium in the women’s competition, the University of Linz were still able to celebrate gold after beating Lithuania’s Vilnius University in the men’s event.

The University of Zagreb continued to add to their medal haul as they defeated the University of Mainz in the bronze medal tie.

In the men’s volleyball final, University of Nice Sophia Antipolis triumphed with a 25-15, 25-22, 22-19 win over the University of Almeria, while the University of NIS won bronze.

The University Vasile Alecsandri of Bacau won the men’s final 25-19, 12-25, 25-23, 25-23 against University of Lausanne.

Bronze was claimed by the University of Belgrade as they beat the German Sport University Cologne 10-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20.

The Games are due to draw to a close tomorrow.
