Malaysia's Chong Wei Feng was among the players to advance to the men's last four at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Vietnam Open on quarter-finals day in Ho Chi Minh City.

The 29-year-old, who boasts a Commonwealth Games gold medal thanks to being a member of Malaysia's mixed team champions at Glasgow 2014, knocked out Indonesia's Shesar Hiren Rhustavito 21-19, 21-14.

His prize in the semi-finals is a clash with another Indonesian, Firman Abdul Kholik, who beat his compatriot Evert Sukamata 21-13, 21-14.

Hong Kong's fourth seed Wong Wing Ki is the top-ranked player left in and secured his passage by getting the better of Malaysia's former double world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli, 21-8, 21-12.

He will now play Lin Yu-hsien of Chinese Taipei, who had to battle through in three games against Indian Siril Verma, 21-4, 15-21, 21-19.

In the women's draw, Taiwanese top seed Hsu Ya-ching made the semi-finals with a three game win over Indonesia's Fitriani, 21-13, 14-21, 21-17.

She will now meet Japan's Ayumi Mine, a 21-18, 21-16 winner over Hong Kong's third seed Cheung Ngan Yi.

Singapore's Yeo Jia Min advanced with a 21-18, 21-13 win over Chinese Taipei's Chiang Mei-hui.

Her last four opponent will be Thailand's qualifier Soniia Cheah Su Ya, who came through after Vietnam's home hope Vu Thi Trang withdrew through injury.

The Thai won the first game 21-10 and the second was not contested.

Action continues tomorrow at the Nguyen Du Stadium, in the BWF Grand Prix Gold level event.
