The University of Mainz claimed victory over the University of Warsaw to move to the top of the Group J standings as beach volleyball competition continued at the European Universities Games (EUG) in Croatia.

The German university dominated the opening stages of the match to secure the first set and continued their standard of performance in the second, which saw them seal a 25-15, 25-15 win.

In the second group tie, Tampere University of Technology battled to a 21-14, 15-21, 15-12 triumph over Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology.

Group I saw the University of Oslo emerge as 21-14, 15-21, 15-9 winners over the University of Split, while the University of Linz defeated the University of Lodz 2 by a score of 21-18, 17-21, 19-17.

Beach volleyball action is due to continue tomorrow, with two matches having been scheduled in each group to bring the stage of competition to a close.

Badminton team competition continued with the final phase of action getting underway, with the University of Pecs claiming an impressive 3-0 victory over the University of Bern.

Klaipeda University were also 3-0 victors in their tie against University of Madrid, while the University of Nicosia won by the same scoreline in their contest with hosts the University of Rijeka.

Elsewhere, the University of Bern defeated Swiss rivals the University of Geneva 3-1, while Opole University were also triumphant by a 3-1 score against the University of Kharkiv.

The final phase of the team event is set to conclude tomorrow, with the individual competitions due to get underway the following day.
