United States' David Brown will be looking to step up his preparations for Rio 2016 this weekend when he competes for the men’s 100 metres T11 title at the penultimate International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix of the season at the Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Sports Park in Berlin.

The reigning world champion and world record holder, who is also racing over 200m in Germany's capital, secured his place on the US team bound for Rio de Janeiro after winning the 100m, 200m and 400m T11 sprints at the US Paralympic Trials two weeks ago.

The 23-year-old faces compatriot Lex Gillette, the world long jump champion, as well as Namibia’s Ananias Shikongo, the 2015 world silver medallist in the 200m T11 - a race in which Brown finished fourth.

Three of the world’s top 10 are due to line-up in the men’s 200m T12 as Germany’s Thomas Ulbricht, Mexico’s Jorge Gonzalez Sauceda and last year’s world silver medallist Jonathan Ntutu of South Africa all take to the track.

Also worth looking out for along with the trio of sub-23 second sprinters are Portugal’s Luis Goncalves, the 400m T12 world champion, and Algeria’s Djamil Nasser.

Germany’s Sebastian Dietz will be aiming to triumph in the men’s shot put F36 having won world gold in October and European silver in June.

The 31-year-old topped the discus podium at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and will no doubt be hoping for a strong performance on home soil with Rio 2016 on the horizon.

Italy’s Martina Caironi takes on the 100m as well as the long jump T42 in Berlin having returned from injury to clinch the 100m T42 European title last month.

The 26-year-old broke the 15-second barrier on her way to world gold last year and will start as favourite in the sprint event as she looks to secure her second consecutive Paralympic title at Rio 2016.

South Africa’s double world champion Ilse Hayes heads the field in the women’s 400m T13.

The 30-year-old will compete in the 100m and 400m at Rio 2016 and this weekend’s race provides last year's world gold medallist over 100m and 200m with an opportunity to fine tune her performance over one lap.

Lining up against Hayes are three other Para-athletes including American sprinter Kym Crosby, who won world 100m bronze and 200m silver behind the South African in 2015.

In the women’s long jump T44, all eyes will be on French world champion Marie-Amelie Le Fur as she looks to lay down a marker ahead of Rio 2016.

Le Fur set a world record mark of 5.74 metres on her way to global gold last year, while Great Britain’s Stef Reid missed out through injury.

Reid has come back strongly though this year, recording a world lead 5.78m earlier this month.

Around 430 athletes from 58 countries will compete at the two-day meeting, supported by international partner Allianz.
