Double Paralympic medallist Stef Reid and Vanessa Daobry have been appointed by London 2017 to two Board roles with exactly a year to go until the World ParaAthletics Championships are due to get underway.

Reid, a T44 long jump silver medallist at London 2012, has taken up a role of the London 2017 Board and vowed to use her experience to help Britain’s capital city put on another large scale event.

The 31-year-old is set to reclaim her world long jump record, subject to her latest mark being ratified, with London 2017 claiming she will bring huge experience to the role, having battled back from a life-changing injury when she lost her right foot in a boating accident.

As well as being an athlete, Reid has also worked as a professional speaker, fashion model and lay preacher.

Daobry has joined the Inspiration Programme Board, which will aim to deliver coordinated activities to use the excitement and interest in London 2017 to create long-term benefits for people.

She recently made her international debut as part of the British team at the International Paralympic Committee Athletics European Championships in Grosseto, competing in the shot put event, and London 2017 believe she will bring an invaluable insight to the programme.

The 39-year-old Daobry was born with a muscular skeletal condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and also developed a neurological condition called Dystonia, which makes her body go into abnormal postures.

She only took up athletics 18 months ago after attending a try-out session, where she was told she was a “natural”

“It’s a real privilege to be a part of the Inspiration Programme Board for London 2017," said Daobry.

“The 2012 Paralympic Games proved to be monumental for encouraging and inspiring disabled individuals to participate in sport whether that was through competing, volunteering or spectating.

“The World ParaAthletics Championships will present further opportunities to continue the work done over the last four years and I’m delighted to be able to be involved in the project.”

The two appointments are the latest changes to the London 2017 Board, following a raft of problems within the Organising Committee, including the resignation of 11-time Paralympic gold medallist Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, who claimed her role was “tokenistic”.

High-ranking civil servant Sir Robin Young was named co-chair of the London 2017 Organising Committee in April, with the former permanent secretary of the Department for Media, Culture and Sport as permanent secretary between 1998 and 2001 serving alongside fellow chair Ed Warner.

Managing director Sally Bolton stepped aside earlier this year along with fellow Board members Heather Hancock and Martin Stewart after allegations of a power battle with Warner and Niels de Vos, the chair and chief executive of UK Athletics respectively, leading to claims of conflict of interest.

Cherry Alexander has replaced Bolton as managing director for London 2017, which will see the World ParaAthletics Championships staged in the same city and the same summer as the World Athletics Championships for the first time ever.

The event is due to take place from July 14 until 23.

The Athletics World Championships are then scheduled to take place from August 4 to 13.

"I'm delighted that two currently competing British ParaAthletics stars are joining the London 2017 team,” said Warner.

“Stef brings with her a wealth of Paralympic experience to help ensure the ParaAthletics World Championships in London are the best ever from an athlete perspective.

“Nessa's London roots will prove invaluable in driving forward our Inspiration Programme's disability athletics initiatives in the host city and the nation more widely.

“I’m looking forward to working with them both over the next 12 months as we plan an incredible summer of world athletics.”
