The International Judo Federation (IJF) has unveiled the judogi backpatches that judokas will wear at next month's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Posting on its official Twitter and Facebook accounts, the IJF has provided an exclusive first look at the backpatches to be worn by six reigning Olympic champions.

Among them was that of Georgia’s Lasha Shavdatuashvili, winner of the 66 kilograms category at London 2012.

Other backpatches revealed were those of France’s Teddy Riner, Brazil’s Sarah Menezes, the United States’ Kayla Harrison, Cuba’s Idalys Ortiz and Japan’s Kaori Matsumoto - all of whom were gold medallists four years ago.

Last month, the IJF announced a record number of athletes will compete at Rio 2016 following the confirmation of the qualified athletes.

As many as 389 competitors from 136 countries will take part in the men’s and women’s weight categories.

Included in the list of athletes due to take to the mat in the Brazilian city are two competitors, both of whom are originally from the Democratic Republic of Conngo, who were named as part of the Refugees Olympic Team.

Yolande Bukasa Mabika is due to participate in the women's under 70kg competition and Popole Misenga will feature in the men's under 90kg category.

Also included is Syrian judoka Mohamad Kasem, set to compete in the men's under 73kg division.

A total of 266 judokas guaranteed their Olympic participation through their ranking, while 100 qualified on the continental quota based on their best results since the start of the qualification period.

They will be joined by 20 athletes who were granted "universality places".
