Czech Republic's Natalie Dianová and Jan Kuf claimed mixed relay gold today at the Modern Pentathlon European Championships in Sofia today.

It came exactly a year and a day after they won the World Championships title in Berlin.

The duo finished the fencing section in second place before taking the lead in the swim.

They finished the ride in third place before producing a solid run-shoot to win with a total of 1,432 points.

"We celebrated our anniversary in style," said Dianová.

"This for me is a pretty patch. 

"I am happy and I am happy that I have not packed in the season and that we are here."

Russian pairing Alexander Savkin and Donata Rimshayte claimed the silver medal with 1,424 points.

Lavinia Bonessio amd Auro Frannceschini of Italy took the bronze medal a further 15 points back.

It came on the third day of the Championships, billed as a final test for top European stars before next month's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. 

Individual and team events will start tomorrow.
