Top seed Wang Shixian came through a gruelling encounter with fellow Chinese He Bingjiao to book her place in the women’s singles final at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Chinese Taipei Open Grand Prix Gold.

Wang was made to work extremely hard by her compatriot in what was the longest match of the day, eventually triumphing 21-18, 17-21, 21-18 after 56 minutes.

Awaiting her in tomorrow’s final is home favourite Tai Tzu Ting, the number two seed, who defeated Thailand’s Nitchaon Jindapol 21-15, 21-14 in the other semi-final.

The clash will be the 12th meeting between Tai and Wang with the latter leading their head-to-head record 7-4.

Tai can take confidence though from the fact that she has won the last two encounters.

In the men’s singles draw, unseeded Qiao Bin of China was reasonably comfortable in beating 12th-ranked Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand 21-11, 21-16.

Qiao’s opponent in the final, Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien-Chen, enjoyed a similarly smooth passage by overcoming 13th seed Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin of Malaysia 21-16, 21-10.

"Today it was easier compared to yesterday," said Chou, who had to come from behind against Hong Kong’s Vincent Wong Wing Ki to reach the semi-finals.

"Probably my opponent couldn’t get into rhythm.

"He played with a lot of emotion in the second game, but the audience was with me and that must have been hard for him.

"I haven’t won a title in a while - for tomorrow, I hope to continue playing the way I have this week."
