Spain hammered Venezuela 83-55 to win Group D and move into the quarter-finals at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women's World Olympic Qualifying Tournament at La Trocardière in French city Nantes.

The Spanish, who romped past China 77-43 yesterday, were in a similarly dominant mood as they romped into a 17-7 lead after the first quarter.

The contest continued to be a mis-match with Leonor Rodrigeuz top-scoring for the Spanish with a 24-point haul.

Spain, the World Cup silver medallists, are now just a game away from qualifying for Rio 2016 with five spots on offer in all in Nantes.

All four quarter-final winners will progress, with the losers in the last eight playing off for the fifth spot.

The Spanish win meant that China also progressed from Group D - with four groups of three teams being contested in all.

In Group A, Cuba edged New Zealand 64-62 to claim the second spot in the quarter-finals alongside hosts France, who had already advanced with two wins.

The Cubans built their lead throughout the match but were left to hang on as the Kiwis won the last quarter 23–16 to move to the brink of a comeback success which would have put them through instead.

In Group C, South Korea beat Belarus 66-65 but both teams have gone through with every side finishing on one win and one defeat.

Nigeria missed out on a points difference of minus 10 with Belarus finishing on plus ten to win the group.

South Korea's points difference was exactly zero.

Turkey beat Cameroon 72-46 to top Group B, with Argentina going through in second place.

All four quarter-finals will be played on Friday (June 17) with Spain meeting South Korea and France clashing with Argentina.

Belaus will play China with Turkey meeting Cuba.
