The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) has entered into a partnership with worldwide premium airline Qatar Airways ahead of Rio 2016.

The APC and Qatar Airways will work together to offer the Asian Paralympic family the opportunity to travel to Rio de Janeiro "in the best conditions and at preferential rates".

The partnership is the first to be secured by the APC since electing its new Board in 2014, and will aim to directly benefit Asian athletes and the wider Asian Paralympic community.

"We’re delighted that we’ve been able to work with Qatar Airways to support our members," said APC chief executive Tarek Souei.

"Travelling to a Paralympic Games is always a significant cost and we’re pleased that this deal can help ensure a fantastic experience, not just for the athletes but also for their friends and families.

"Through this agreement with Qatar Airways, the APC would like to invite more companies and service providers from the Asian region to support the athletes and facilitate their preparations and participation in major sporting events including Paralympics, world and regional competitions."

If successful, it is claimed the deal could lead to a longer-term commitment with the airline.

The offer also includes a special rate for friends, families and supporters of the athletes.
