More than 60 of the world’s best Para-triathletes are expected to compete at the event, where qualification points for this year's Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are up for grabs.

Great Britain’s Phil Hogg will be hoping to continue his run of success having won PT1 silver at ITU World Para-Triathlon event in Buffalo City in March.

Fellow Briton Lauren Steadman, who, like Hogg has qualified for Rio 2016, will be the one to watch in the women’s field as the 2014 world champion competes in the PT4 event.

Strathclyde Country Park has become the iconic home of triathlon in Scotland on the back of the 2014 Commonwealth Games

The venue will play host to an extensive weekend festival of sport including the Para-triathlon, ITU and European Triathlon Union (ETU) age-group qualification races, an open sprint triathlon race and a 10 kilometres road race.

"We are so proud and delighted that such a prestigious event will come to Scotland in the lead up to Rio," Jane Moncrieff, chief executive of Triathlon Scotland, said.

"Strathclyde is a fantastic venue and this event is part of a whole weekend of triathlon action in Glasgow."

Paul Bush, VisitScotland’s director of events, added: "The ITU World Para-Triathlon will bring some of the world’s finest athletes to Scotland and I am sure that each and every one of them will be excited at the prospect of competing within the scenic grounds of Strathclyde Country Park.

"We look forward to seeing thousands of spectators turn out to cheer them on, and be inspired."

Para-triathlon is set to make its Paralympic debut at Rio 2016.
