The British Lionhearts booked their place in their first-ever World Series of Boxing (WSB) final as they ended the Astana Arlans Kazakhstan's pursuit of a second straight title with a 4-1 semi-final victory at York Hall in London.

The hosts came into the semi-final, second leg needing to win three bouts to set up a meeting with the Cuba Domadores in the WSB showpiece and they produced another superb performance to wrap up a 7-3 aggregate triumph.

Flyweight Koryun Soghomonyan of Armenia settled Lionhearts nerves by moving them closer to an historic success as he beat Asamat Izakulov by unanimous decision in the opening bout of the night to give the home side a 1-0 lead.

The Lionhearts' spot in the final was all-but assured when Luke McCormack, keen to follow in the footsteps of brother Pat, who was victorious in the first leg, doubled their advantage with a controlled display in his lightweight clash with Zakir Safiullin.

McCormack had the measure of his opponent from the outset and dominated proceedings, with all three judges awarding him the fight 49-46 on their respective scorecards.

The British party was put on hold in the next match, however, as welterweight Aslanbek Shymbergenov got the Arlans on the scoreboard by edging Josh Kelly by split decision to cut the deficit to 5-3.

But the hosts, desperate to earn their first shot at the main WSB prize, remained composed and guaranteed their final berth when Bulgarian light heavyweight Radoslav Pantaleev claimed a unanimous victory against Nurdaulet Zharmanov.

All three judges saw the bout the same way, with the Lionhearts fighter winning 48-47 on the scorecards to give his team an unassailable 6-3 lead.

The gloss on an excellent two evenings' work from the British Lionhearts was added by super heavyweight Frazer Clarke as he overcame Kamshybek Kunkabayev in the 10th and last bout of the last four match-up, sparking scenes of jubilation from the home side.

The result gave the British-based franchise success in their maiden semi-final appearance and marked another impressive win from the team, who outfought the Astana Arlans over the two nights and deservedly progressed.

The Lionhearts and the Domadores will battle for the season VI crown on June 4 in Uzbekistan.
