A “Judo Educational Journey” through various regions in Australia is the main topic covered in the fifth instalment of the "Judo for the World" video series.

The Oceanian country follows Japan, Cuba, Brazil and Turkey in being the focal point of one of the International Judo Federation’s (IJF) videos.

The latest edition sees the “Judo Educational Journey” visit four States of Australia - Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.

It focuses on people who have had their lives changed by the educational initiative, developed three years ago to promote the values and philosophy of the sport, and began in Brisbane.

A demonstration of judo was organised by the IJF at Parliament House, where young girls were given the chance to try out the sport for the first time in a special session held under the tutelage of a Japanese coach.

It then moved on to another city in Queensland, Bamaga, which involved a visit to the Aboriginal community.

From there, the “Judo Educational Journey” moved on to Melbourne, where another specially-organised demonstration was held at Geelong before participants were given the chance to meet with judokas who may represent their country at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The Barossa Valley, close to Adelaide, provided the fourth stop for the tour, where those taking part had the opportunity to sample an area where new judo clubs are set to be established in the near future.

It then concluded in Sydney as the top judokas in the region met with the IJF to share their experiences and thoughts.

According to the IJF, the overall tour, organised by the worldwide governing body in partnership with the Judo Federation of Australia, was a “great success” and “demonstrated the diversity of judo throughout the country”.

The next Judo for the World programmes will visit Zambia in Africa and Hungary in Europe.
