The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) have revealed the draws for the qualification rounds at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which determine the order athletes and nations will compete in.

China, who will begin as the defending champions in the men’s team all-round event, have been placed into subdivision three, with their gymnasts due to tackle the vault in their opening discipline in qualification.

Ukraine and Switzerland will begin on the mat and rings respectively, with Russia opening on the high bar.

Subdivision two will see Britain, France, Germany and the United States rotate across the apparatus, while the first group consists of hosts Brazil, Japan, South Korea and The Netherlands, who were one of four nations to qualify through the Rio test event.

Olympic champions the United States have been paired alongside The Netherlands in the women’s qualification, with their team due to tackle the floor in the first of four disciplines.

Belgium and China were drawn in the first subdivision and will begin with the uneven bars and beam respectively, while Italy and Russia will make up the second group.

Hosts Brazil join Britain and Germany in the third subdivision, with Japan, Mexico and Canada competing in the final qualification grouping.

Each of the teams will pick five gymnasts for the competition, while a total of 38 individual competitors will also take part in the qualification rounds in both men’s and women’s events.

In rhythmic gymnastics a total of 26 athletes will take part in the individual competition, while 14 nations have qualified for the group events.

A total of 16 men and women will also compete in their respective qualification rounds in trampoline at the Arena Olímpica do Rio.
