Yakop Gur bagged a place at this year’s Games for Turkey as he beat Borislav Stefanov Novachkov of Bulgaria 4-2 in the qualification bout in the 65 kilograms division.

The other two in the category went to Bahrain’s Adam Batirov and Zurabi Iakobishvili of Georgia after they overcame Gur and Novachkov respectively.

Gur’s team-mate Soner Demirtas also managed to earn a place for Turkey, defeating Oleh Bilotserkivskyi of Ukraine 4-0 in the 74kg category.

Evgheni Nedealco of Moldova cruised to a dominant 6-0 victory over Bilotserkivskyi to seal a quota berth for his nation, with the third spot going to Georgi Ivanov Ivanov of Bulgaria, who edged a high-scoring affair with Hungary’s Mihaly Nagy 10-7.

Poland were the other country to pick up two vital quotas thanks to the performances of Zbigniew Mateusz Baranowski and Robert Baran.

They both both took full advantage of the second chances they were given on the final day after both suffered bronze medal defeats but emerged triumphant in their respective play-offs.

Baranowski took the third and final place in the 86kg weight class with a narrow 4-3 win against China’s Feng Zhan and Baran achieved the feat at 125kg by beating Lyuben Borisov Iliev of Bulgaria 5-1.

J'den Cox of the United States and Venezuelan Pedro Fuentes were the recipients of the other two Rio 2016 spots on offer in the 86kg category thanks to successes against Umidjon Ismanov of Uzbekistan and Liubomyr Sagaliuk of the Ukraine respectively.

At 125kg, Zhiwei Deng’s 11-3 win against Baran was enough to hand China an Olympic quota, while Daniel Ligeti of Hungary accounted for Aiaal Lazarev of Kyrgyzstan 4-0 in his semi-final.

In the 57kg division, Ivan Guidea of Romania proved too strong for Belarus’ Uladzislau Andreyeu, picking up a 4-3 victory in the semi-final to guarantee his nation a slot at Rio 2016, with Azerbaijani Mirjalal Hasan-Zada beating Indian Sandeep Tomar to claim a spot for his country.

Tomar bounced back to ensure an Indian presence in the event in the Brazilian city in some style, winning his bout with Ukrainian Andriy Yatsenko by technical fall.

Following earlier disappointment, Uzbekistan clinched a Rio 2016 spot as Magomed Idrisovitch Ibragimov proved too strong for home favourite Khuderbulga Dorjkhand with a crushing 9-2 win.

Armenia’s Georgii Ketoev ensured his country will compete in the division at the Olympics in similarly commanding fashion, beating Nicolai Ceban of Moldova 7-0.

The third and final available quota was earned by Ceban thanks to his 9-4 success against Dorjkhand.
