The United States and Canada maintained their 100 per cent records at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Karlstad today.

Canada's team of Dustin Kalthoff and Marliese Kasner made it two wins out of two by seeing off Ireland 8-3 at the Swedish venue.

That put the country top of Group D as a large number of pool matches were played in the 42-team tournament.

"When you're from Canada you don't get a lot of opportunities to represent your country because there’s so many excellent curlers," said Kalthoff.

"It’s a lifetime dream of mine, like it is for most Canadians, it’s just an honour that can’t be described in words.

"Momentum here is important.

"We need to keep doing all the things we’re doing right and to keep working on the things that need minor tweaking to get to the point that we feel like we can bring home the gold."

Elsewhere, the United States took charge of Group E as they made it three wins from three by beating Netherlands 11-1.

Poland recorded their first win at the Championship by defeating Bulgaria 8-3 with a score of three points in the seventh end sealing their victory.

Both Denmark and South Korea continued their winning form with 10-4 and 6-2 victories over Belarus and Lithuania respectively.

The Danes won largely due to a steal of three points in the third end and a score of four points in the fifth.

China defeated Australia 12-2 in six ends of play after opening the scoring with five points in the first, and Norway hammered Luxembourg 14-1.

Turkey managed to edge past Japan, 7-6, and New Zealand recorded their first win of the week, 11-7 over Spain.

With the game tied at 7-7 after eight ends the Kiwis scored four points in the extra end to claim the win.
