The first four winners of the International Tennis Federation's (ITF) Fed Cup Heart Awards for 2016 have been confirmed.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus, Ukraine’s Kateryna Bondarenko, Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Su-Wei and Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska have all been honoured, with the awards recognising players "who have represented their country with distinction and showed courage and commitment on court".

All four players put in fine displays during the opening round of this year's Fed Cup in February - the premier team competition in women's tennis and the equivalent of the men's Davis Cup.

A public vote which ran on the ITF's website until April 1 decided the winners, who will all receive cash prizes of varying amounts to donate to charity.

Sasnovich won in the World Group and World Group II category after three victories against Canada in Quebec City.

That saw Belarus triumph 3-2 in the World Group II clash and booked a first World Group play-off encounter since 2004.

“I am very pleased to win such a prestigious award," she said.

"I want to thank all those people who voted for me, and gave me a chance to help people in need.

"I want to give this award money to support the children at the Cancer Centre in Borovlyany.

"I really hope that this money will help someone.”

Bondarenko won in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I category after winning all five rubbers she contested for Ukraine at the event in Eilat in Israel.

It was her first Fed Cup appearance since the birth of her daughter.

Hsieh's performance saw her win in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group 1 section, as she claimed three victories out of four to lead Chinese Taipei into the World Group II play-offs for the first time since 2007.

Podoroska was the Americas winner after winning four matches at the Group I event in Bolivia to book the Argentinians a play-off spot.

“There were some outstanding performances during the Fed Cup ties in February, so I would like to congratulate all four players for coming out on top of the public vote," said ITF President David Haggerty.

"The Fed Cup Heart Award continues to reward players for the commitment they make to their team and the competition as a whole.

"I am sure that all the winners will take great pride in making their donations to charity.”
