Britain were the dominant nation on day two of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix meeting in Grosseto as Isaac Towers and Meggan Dawson-Farrell each secured three gold medals at the Carlo Zecchini Olympic Stadium.

European silver medallist Towers powered home in the men’s T33/34/53/54 200 metres in 30.89sec to secure gold ahead of Italian duo Ivan Carmelo Messina and Giandomenico Sartor.

The 17-year-old Briton went on to reign supreme over one lap of the track, clocking 59.34 to again oust Messina, with David Scherer of Germany sealing bronze.

Towers then completed his hat-trick in the 1,500 metres race, taking victory by finishing in a time of 3min 43.40sec as Scherer added to his own personal haul with silver.

Dawson-Farrell followed suit as she won the women’s T33/53/54 200m, 400m and 1,500m with a series of commanding performances.

The 23-year-old raced home in the 200m in 32.30, finishing in front of compatriot Eden Rainbow-Cooper and Zeynep Acet, before clocking 1:09.20 to claim victory over double that distance.

Rainbow-Cooper took second place to earn silver, while Hamide Kurt of Turkey secured bronze.

A time of 4:03.94 then proved enough for Dawson-Farrell to clinch gold in the 1,500m as she took the tape in front of Rainbow-Cooper.

The British success continued when Jayden Saberton won the 400m T36/37 in 59.38, ahead of team-mate Reece Goodwin and Loukas Io Protonotarios of Greece.

James Hamilton added yet another gold on an impressive day for the British athletes as he clocked 4:09.70 in the 1,500m T20, with Mohamed Mahad Hersi securing silver and Pavel Sarkeev of Russia taking home the bronze.

Egor Sharov of Russia maintained his string of excellent performances by winning the T13 400m in 50.25 to finish well clear of his rivals.

The world silver medallist was over two seconds quicker than Spaniard Jose Fernandez Taular, while Abel Ciorap of Romania came through to take third.

France’s Laurie Brandel was the victor in the women’s 400m T20/43 as she clocked 1:03.28 ahead of Yuliia Shuliar of Ukraine and Italian Giuseppina Versace.

In the field, Slovakia’s world and European champion Adrian Matusik asserted his dominance in the men’s F40-46 shot put event, topping the podium with a final round throw of 14.52 metres.

Andrius Skuja of Lithuania claimed silver and Greece’s Miltiadis Kyriakidis earned bronze.

Abdulrahman Abdulrahman, gold medallist at last month’s IPC Asia Oceania Championships last month, won the men’s F34 shot by recording 10.29m, which proved enough to beat Italian Giuseppe Campoccio and Radmilo Baranin of Montenegro.

Czech thrower Eva Berna recovered from the disappointment of defeat yesterday as she secured gold in the F11-13 and F35-38 discus.

The Paralympic shot put bronze medallist, who only managed two legal throws, produced a best attempt of 25.98m to clinch the title.

Latvia’s Taiga Kantane sealed silver and bronze went the way of home favourite Elena Favaretto.

The event in Grosseto concludes with the final day of action tomorrow.
