Svetlana Barantseva proved a pivotal archer for Russia throughout the day as she helped guide their women’s team, which also contained Margarita Sidorenko and Irina Rossiyskaya, into the gold medal contest.

They finished level with the British team with four sets apiece, but the Russian trio were able to triumph on a tie-break.

The top seeds will now face Turkey in the gold medal match on Saturday (April 9), after they defeated Italy 6-2 in their semi-final tie.

Barantseva then competed for Russia in the mixed team competition, alongside Bato Tsydendorzhiev, with the duo claiming a 6-2 victory over Turkey.

Second seeds Poland will contest the final with the Russian team, after Milena Olszewska and Piotr Sawicki secured a dominant 6-0 victory over Italy’s Elisabetta Mijno and Roberto Airoldi in their last four contest.

Sawacki was joined by Ireneusz Kapusta and Pawel Daleszynski in the men’s team competition, with the trio defeating Turkey 6-2 to advance to a final against France, who beat Italy on a tie-break.

Britain’s Jo Frith and John Walker reached the recurve and compound mixed team final by beating France’s Elisabeth Barleon and Olivier Hatem 145-125.

They will now meet Russia’s Elena Krutova and Igor Meshkov, after they secured a narrow 138-137 win over Spain’s Liliana Oliveros and Manuel Sanchez Camus.

Russia will contest the women’s open compound gold medal match after beating Ukraine 202-185, with Germany beating Italy on a tie-break in the second semi-final to advance.

The Italian men’s team, though, were able to advance to their final after beating Ukraine 219-206 to underline their status as top seeds.

They will now face Turkey, who claimed a 215-211 win over Britain.

Italy also defeated Ukraine in the mixed team event, with their 152-146 triumph seeing them set up a final clash against Sweden, who beat France 141-140.
