The dates for the first-ever UK-based Ski and Snowboard Cross (GBX) National Trials have been announced today with the six-leg series set to begin later this month.

Sponsored by car manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors, the trials will run at British slopes and ski centres across the next six months.

Athletes will be selected using the GBX skills mission documents and those who are successful will be invited to join either the Home Nations squad, the National Academy squad, the British national squad or the Para-Snowsport GB SBX squad.

The first trial is due to take place at Snow Factor in Braehead on April 23, followed by a stop at the Norfolk Snowsports Club on May 28.

The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead will play host to the third trial on June 5 with Snozone Yorkshire in Leeds set to stage the fourth on June 25.

The series will conclude by returning to the Snow Factor and the Snow Centre on July 9 and September 17 respectively.

There will also be SX and SBX competitions held in Leeds on June 26 and in Braehead on July 10.

The home nations squad will be expected to focus primarily on training in the UK and utilising domestic opportunities to progress in the sport.

There will be opportunities on snow programmes for those excelling in the National Academy, however.

The National Academy and British national squads are 12-month programmes, six of which are based on snow.

They consist of snow coaching, competition coaching, fitness support, nutritional support, and a full International Ski Federation and European Cup competition programme.

The Para-Snowsport GB SBX squad is managed in full by Para-Snowsport GB.

The GBX programme was formed in 2014 by British Ski and Snowboard (BSS) with the aim of strengthening the performance of both disciplines by sharing resources.

Funded by the athletes and managed by BSS together with Snowsport England and Snowsport Scotland, it is led by GBX performance manager Dan Brier alongside the head coaches for ski cross and snowboard cross.

The national trials are being run and managed in full by three-time British Olympian Zoe Gillings and Cross Snowsports club.
