“We’re playing better as a team this year [than last year]," said Finnish head coach Pasi Mustonen.

The Russians, beaten by Finland in the bronze medal game last year, were largely in control of proceedings during the encounter with the Swedes and enjoyed comfortable progress to the last four, where they will meet defending champions the United States.

Valeria Pavlova and Tatyana Burina also found the net for Russia.

Johanna Olofsson netted Sweden’s consolation.

Russia were beaten by US, who have been in ominous form throughout the competition so far, in the 2015 semi-finals.
