Russia’s men and Britain’s women successfully defended their team titles with dominant performances on day two of the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) Trampoline Championships at the Pisuerga Sports Centre in Valladolid in Spain.

The Russian quartet, made up of Mikhail Melnik, Dmitrii Ushakov, Sergei Azarian and Nikita Fedorenko, produced a classy display to clinch gold in the men’s team trampoline event as they finished on a total of 177,855 points.

Melnik was the star performer for Russia, producing his country's top score after his routine was rewarded with 59,825 points as they stormed to the title with a commanding four-point advantage over nearest challengers Belarus.

The Belarus team, who chose to only field three gymnasts - Uladzislau Hancharou, Mikalai Kazak and Artsiom Zhouk - were forced to settle for the silver medal on a combined score of 173,820 points.

Diogo Abreu, Pedro Ferreira, Ricardo Santos and Diogo Ganchinho of Portugal took home the bronze medals as they amassed a total of 169,065 points, comfortably in front of Belgium.

The day once again belonged to the classy Russian outfit, holding onto the title they earned at the 2014 European Trampoline Championships in Guimarães in Portugal in style.

Britain’s women were also in stunning form on the second day of the event in Valladolid as the team of Bryony Page, Katherine Driscoll, Pamela Clark and Amanda Parker secured their second straight crown thanks to receiving a total of 159,595 points from the judges.

Their score proved far too hot for the rest of the field to handle as Susana Kochesok, Yana Pavlova, Vladislava Ryzhkova and Anna Kornetskaya sealed the silver medal for Russia on 156,970 points.

They were unable to match the feat of their male counterparts and always looked set to finish behind the excellent British contingent.

The home crowd inside the Pisuerga Sports Centre did have some success to cheer as Claudia Prat, Cristina Sainz, Elvira Santiago and Cristina Masfret rounded off the podium with a score of 149,985 points for the bronze medal.

The result handed Spain their first-ever women’s team European Championships trampoline medal as they comfortably held off Georgia to secure their place in the record books.

The event in Valladolid is due to continue tomorrow.
