Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat sealed his second International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Cup Jumping Final title at the Scandinavium Arena in Gothenburg.

The 33-year-old headed into the final day of competition top of the overall standings, after recording fourth place finishes in the first two rounds.

His pursuit of back-to-back World Cup Finals titles, having triumphed in Las Vegas last year, moved one step closer when he recorded a clear round in the opening competition of the day.

The Swiss star ensured he would end as the winner, after producing another clean round on his horse Corbinian to finish the competition with no point penalties.

Guerdat received €172,500 (£135,690/$193,243) for his victory, taking his earnings from the weekend to a total of €232,100 (£182,572/$260,010).

“It’s really special," he said.

“I wasn’t really thinking I would stand here as the Final winner today.

“I have a really strong team supporting me, people who get up early every morning and work really hard, so I want to thank my whole team, it’s really a team victory.

“We all have the same goal, it’s me who’s standing here but there are many people who should be standing here with me.”

The Netherlands’ Harrie Smolders finished as the runner-up with three penalties, which boosted his chances of competing at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Germany’s Daniel Deusser also received the same number of penalties as Smolders, but finished as the bronze medallist after producing a slower time than the Dutch rider.

Deusser’s team-mate Marcus Ehning missed out on the podium after ending fourth, with six points.
